Quote for Thought

"Faith is not logical. But it isn't illogical either. Faith is theological. It does not ignore reality; it just adds God into the equation...Faith is not mindless ignorance; it simply refuses to limit God to the logical constraints of the left brain."

- Mark Batterson, 'Wild Goose Chase'

So I’ve been reading Mark Batterson's new book, 'The Wild Goose Chase,' (review to come on the my personal blog - kevinsthirdplace.blogspot.com) and so far it has been amazing.

I love this quote because it calls those of us who are dreaming about tomorrow's church to not limit our selves to the logical way things have always been done. The whole book is a challenge to not settle in life, but pursue your God-given dream. So if our dream of what tomorrow's church could be or should be seems dumb, irrational or even wrong to mainstream Christianity - if it is from God who should dare to pursue it. God in the equation makes life an adventure and the impossible - possible!

i think we are to be logically illogical. expecting that the seemingly impossible things can be done through a possible God.

Funny you say that Karli - one of the things he argues for the in the book is being irresponsible responsible. He talks about how we get so bogged down in our culture with 'responsibility' that we settle for a career instead of an adventure. So he says it's like being responsibly irresponsible, doing what you think you have to, at the risk of neglecting something bigger God may be calling you to.

Logically illogical.
Irresponsible responsible.
Dreams take risks, and God-given dreams seem rationally illogical and irresponsible.
