Quote for Thought

Friday, September 26, 2008
"We must now surrender to the obligation to understand and to care. We must surrender ourselves to becoming conscious, thinking members of the human race. We must put down the temptation to powerlessness and surrender to the questions of the moment."

- Joan Chittister

This quote may not seem like it relates to Tomorrow's Chruch, but I thought it was a good challenge, as to what is important.

I think Tomorrow's Chruch has to think about more that church budgets, numbers, buildings and programs - it has to become a conscious, thinking member of society.

I think Tomorrow's Church has to exhort its members to not give in to the thought that they are powerless as one person and instead seek to see how much change they can make as one person. The people of Tomorrow's Chruch have to stay engaged with humanity around them, speak their language and wrestle with the same issues.

What a great quote. I like what you say here Kevin, "The people of tomorrow's Church have to stay engaged with humanity around them, speak their language and wrestle with the same issues." As Chittister says, we must surrender to our OBLIGATION to care. The Body needs functioning members. We have to recognize our need for others and their need for us. We have to surrender our selfish desire to serve only our best interest, when we have a whole Body to care for.
